From gross salary (RAL) to net pay

The calculator starts from your RAL (gross annual salary) and applies, in order: the INPS contributions you owe (usually 9.19%), progressive IRPEF with employee deductions, the regional and municipal surtaxes and the 2026 tax wedge bonus. The result is your annual net, then divided by the number of monthly payments you choose (12, 13 or 14).

Enter your region and municipality to get the correct surtaxes, plus any dependent family members. Keep in mind that a single payslip can vary by a few euros due to monthly rounding and the year-end adjustment: the figure here is on an annual basis.

Frequently asked questions

What is RAL (gross annual salary)?

RAL (Retribuzione Annua Lorda) is your total annual compensation before any tax or social security deductions. It is the figure stated in your employment contract.

What deductions are applied to a salary in Italy?

From the gross salary, the employee's INPS social security contributions (9.19%), IRPEF income tax calculated by bracket, and regional surtaxes are withheld. The result is the net take-home pay. Municipal surtaxes, which vary by municipality, are not included in the base calculation.

What are the 2026 IRPEF tax brackets?

The 2026 IRPEF brackets are three: 23% up to €28,000, 33% on the portion between €28,000 and €50,000, and 43% on the portion above €50,000. Employee deductions reduce the effective tax rate.

Does the calculation include regional surtaxes?

Yes, the calculator includes regional surtax rates for all Italian regions, which range from 0.7% to 3.33% depending on the region of residence.

Is the result accurate to the cent?

The calculation is an accurate estimate based on official 2026 rates. The exact net on your payslip may vary slightly due to specific contractual clauses, company benefits, or individual tax situations.
